When a death occurs, please notify Doan & Mills Funeral Home in Richmond (765) 966-0596 or Mills Funeral Home in Centerville (765) 855-5342. We will arrange to take your loved one into our care. We will then set an appointment time for you to come to the funeral home for an arrangement conference to complete the details of the funeral arrangement.

During our arrangement conference, your funeral director will collect information from you for the newspaper obituary and the death certificate. This vital statistic information will include the deceased’s:

full name
address
date of birth
city and state of birth
social security number (the funeral home will file the necessary Social Security forms)
parents names including the mother’s maiden name
education
occupation or former occupation
marital status
family member names and where they live
memberships
hobbies or interests
cemetery name and any lot/marker information

We know every family has different needs, religious beliefs, and traditions. Keeping these individual differences in mind, we strive to tailor every funeral service to the families we serve. So, we offer a variety of services and merchandise. During the arrangement conference, we will discuss these options with you, and you decide what is right for you and your family.

During the arrangement conference, you will make several choices to plan the type of service you want, and your funeral director will help coordinate all of the details for you.
Some of the decisions you will make during the arrangement conference include:

Time/Day of Visitation/Funeral/Graveside
Military or lodge rites, if applicable
Selection of casket and vault in keeping with the wishes of the deceased and the means and needs of the family
Musical selections
Clergy or who you would like to conduct/speak during the funeral
Selection of urn, if cremation is your choice
Spray and flowers from the family
Pallbearers
Order of cars going to the cemetery

Some items for you to bring to the funeral home may include the deceased’s:

Clothing, personal items, glasses, jewelry…
DD214, if veteran
Recent photograph for the hairdresser, newspaper, memorial cards, and laminated bookmarks
Photos for DVD Memory Tribute, if you choose
Photos for memory boards to be displayed during the visitation/funeral, if you choose. We have easels and picture frame boards with magnets to hold your photographs.
