Name: Clarence Smith Date: February 19th, 1931 - February 27th, 2010 Obituary: NEW PARIS, Ohio – Clarence Smith, age 79, of New Paris, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Reid Hospital. Born February 19, 1931, in Bull Creek, Kentucky, to the late D.T. and Amanda Sproles Smith, he was the foster son of Jack and Myrtle Wilson of Corbin, Kentucky, after the death of his mother. Clarence served in the United States Army, and later attended Clear Creek Bible College. He lived in Richmond and New Paris, Ohio since 1966. Clarence worked at O’Neil Funeral Home in Corbin, Kentucky and later at AVCO. He retired from ALCOA after 20 years of service. Clarence was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved fishing, gardening, telling stories, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Bessie Lois (Ellison) Smith; sons, Danny Smith and his wife Barbara of Arizona, Dale Smith and his wife Rhonda of Eaton, Darrell Smith of Lafayette, and Dallas Smith of Modoc; nine grandchildren, James Robert Smith and his wife Amy, Amy Rose, Jennifer Smith and her husband Wes, Joshua Smith and Amanda Bradley, Tina Johnson and her husband Scott, Jason Smith and his wife Beth, Michelle Croff and her husband Brandon, Anthony Smith, and Michael Smith; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Austin, Jordan, Jason, Dillon, Chel’c, Jocelyn, Kelcie, Hanna, James, Haley, Madison, Katelyn, Jackson, and Jordan Anthony. He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith; grandson, Gerald Smith; great-grandson, Joshua Ray Smith; parents; and foster parents. Visitation for Clarence Smith will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Maples officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
