Obituary:
RICHMOND, Ind. - Gayland E. Rader Sr., age 61, of Richmond, died Saturday, February 16, 2013, at his home with his last wishes being fulfilled, having his friends and family at his side. Born December 16, 1951, in Richmond, to Donald and Olive Jane Toney Rader, Gayland was a life-long resident of this area. He grew up in Greens Fork, where his grandfather owned a saw mill. Gayland served in the U.S. Army. He earned an Associate’s Degree. Gayland was a partner with Gene and Ed Phenis at the U and I Tavern, where he was the manager. His passions were golf, preparation for the Rader Cup, shooting billiards, music, socializing, and playing gin with his friends at work. He was an avid Bengals fan. Gayland was always the life of the party. Survivors include his three children, Don (Angie) Rader, Gayland Rader Jr., and Jennifer (Chris) Gray, all of Richmond; five grandchildren, Mason, Bryce, Oein, Kylie, and Austin; father; seven siblings, Gene Rader, Brenda (Tuttles) Maupins, Teresa (Gary) Swejkar, Pam (Billy Paul) Sparks, Gladys Dreaden, Darla May, and David Rader, all of Richmond; inseparable sister-in-law, Fran Rader; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; brother, Stuart Rader; wife of 29 years, Sharon Rader; and business partner Ross Phenis. Visitation for Gayland E. Rader Sr. will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Slaven officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery.
