Obituary:
RICHMOND, Ind. – Chester Abrams, age 94, of Richmond, died Friday, January 18, 2013, at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services. Born April 13, 1918, in Climax, Kentucky, to Clarence and Mattie Thacker Abrams, he lived in this area most of his life. Chester graduated from Berea High School and Berea College, both in Berea, Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Chester was a mechanic and retired from RP&L after 32 years. He was a Christian who loved the Lord. Survivors include his son, Roland (Karen) Abrams of Richmond; daughters, Nita Burke of Fountain City and Wilma Marlene “Mim” (Larry) Duncil of Cambridge City; nine grandchildren, Vicki (Terry) Hoober of Fountain City, Sondra (Robert) Clay of Dayton, Ohio, Lisa (Gary) Davidson of Eaton, Ohio, Dr. Angela Burke of Fountain City, Lisa Schoolcraft of St. Louis, Missouri, Michelle (Dan) Brouse of Richmond, Barbie (Mark) Nothstine of St. Louis, Missouri, Sheryl (Bret) Oakerson of Richmond, and April (Mikel) Talbot of Centerville; 22 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Allen of Richmond and Gertude (Orville) Webb of Richmond; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Madeline E. Abrams who died December 20, 2012; parents; two brothers; four sisters; and great-granddaughter, Victoria “Tori” Brown. Visitation for Chester Abrams will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Dr. Martin Holman officiating.
