Marguerite "Maggie" Vaughan

December 11th, 1939 - January 14th, 2013

RICHMOND, Ind. – Marguerite “Maggie” Vaughan, age 73, most recently of Mesa, Arizona, died Monday, January 14, 2013, after a brief illness. Born December 11, 1939, in Richmond, to Joseph and Catherine Niersbach, she grew up in Richmond, graduated from Richmond High School in 1957, and attended Earlham College. Maggie moved around quite a bit and lived in at least eight states, but spent most of her later years in Richmond, Chicago, and Arizona. She worked in the health care field for much of her career, the largest portion of which was spent managing activity and volunteer programs at Bethany Terrace Nursing Center in Morton Grove, Illinois. After Maggie officially “retired” she continued to work and volunteer in various roles, including delivering meals-on-wheels (both in Richmond and in Arizona), gardening and other projects at Cope Environmental Center, and grooming horses at Sunrise Therapeutic Stables. Maggie also enjoyed traveling, and one of her fondest memories was completing a grueling 5-mile hike through a jungle in Panama to celebrate her 70th birthday. Survivors include her son, Quentin (Amy) Vaughan of Alameda, California; brother, William (Becky) Niersbach of Richmond; niece, Gretchen (Robert) Murray of Caldwell, New Jersey; nephew, Rick (Karen) Niersbach of Richmond; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends in Richmond, Chicago, and Arizona. Maggie also leaves behind her beloved cats, Agnes and Irving, and her “granddogs,” Elliott and Arthur. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Adriana Vaughan; and brother, Joseph Niersbach. A private burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
