Obituary:
RICHMOND, Ind. – James R. Oakley Jr., age 45, of Richmond, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at Reid Hospital surrounded by those he loved after an extended illness. Born September 6, 1967, in Bethesda, Maryland, to James and Patricia Reno Oakley, he lived in Richmond most of his life. James was a 1985 graduate of Richmond High School and 1990 graduate of DePauw University. He began his professional career with Holland Colours Americas. He was then employed at A. Schulman in Fort Wayne and Detroit. James then accepted a position as New Business Development Manager and returned to Holland Colours Americas to be close to his family. He traveled extensively with his work in Europe and Mexico. James was fluent in Spanish. Education was very important to him and he excelled in academics and athletics. James enjoyed culture and the fine arts and loved going to art museums. He also was interested in American and world history and loved visiting historical places. Jimmy never met a stranger and was well known for his generosity, big heart, and sense of humor. Survivors include his parents; sister, Krista (Scott) Schultz of Richmond; nephews and niece, Scott, Isaac, and Madeline, who dearly loved their “Unc”; uncles, Richard Oakley and Jerry Reno; cousins; and a very special friend, Kristina Akopdzhanova and her daughter, Vera. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Visitation for James R. Oakley Jr. will be from 3 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Kerry O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
