Obituary:
WINCHESTER, Ind. – Charles John Pierce Sr., age 68, of Winchester, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at his home. Born June 10, 1944, in Boston, Indiana, to Elmer and Ethel Eugenia Goodwin Pierce, he lived all of his life in this area. Charles was a 1962 graduate of Boston High School, where he was a three year starter on the Boston basketball team. He worked at Wayne Dairy and later retired from Belden after over 40 years of service as an extruder operator. Charles then farmed for four years for Beck Farms. He was a member of One Way God’s Way Community Church, Belden 25 Year Club, and Whitewater Valley Archery Club. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved being out on the tractor in the fields. Survivors include his wife, Connie Sue Dugger Pierce, to whom he was married on June 17, 2001; son, Charles John (Mary Ann) Pierce Jr. of Richmond; daughter, Julia Annette (Ray) Shannon of Arcanum, Ohio; twelve step-children, Jeffery Dalton of Richmond, Angela (Walter) Toller of Indianapolis, Kimberly (Jeffrey) Franklin and April (John) Pike, both of Liberty, Steven (Teresa) Dalton of New Castle, Waneta Jenkins, Debra Jenkins, and Marsha (Mike) Conaway, all of Connersville, and Jeremy (Tonya) Dalton, Weslee Jenkins, James Jenkins, and Savanna Jenkins, all of Winchester; four grandchildren, Tonya Marie Pierce, Tiffany Lynn Shannon, Kristy Marie Pierce, and Patrick Bailey Shannon; 27 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Jodell) Pierce of Centerville and Donald (Cheryl) Pierce of Fountain City; sister, Ruthanne (Kenny) Haggart of Sturgis, Michigan; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Lou Edwards. Visitation for Charles John Pierce Sr. will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. David Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
