Charles Halcomb Springer

RICHMOND, Ind. – Charles Halcomb Springer, age 72, of Richmond, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Reid Hospital. Born September 25, 1940, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Harold and Susan Halcomb Springer, he moved here from the East coast and lived in this area for over 40 years. He received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. Charles began his career as a chemistry professor at Earlham College. He retired from Richmond State Hospital after 25 years of service. Charles founded the Richmond Farmer’s Market. He was a long time fireman with the Boston Volunteer Fire Department and was active with Richmond Civic Theatre. Survivors include his son, Nicholas (MaryAnn) Springer of New Jersey; daughters, Stephanie (Steve) Voss of Michigan and Alexia Springer of Richmond; two grandchildren; sister, Edith Springer of Massachusetts; brother, Steve Springer of Massachusetts; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Clarry Springer who died in 1997; parents; and brother, Harold Springer III. Visitation for Charles Halcomb Springer will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
