Obituary:
RICHMOND, Ind. – William E. Morris, age 86, of Richmond, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Reid Hospital. Born June 28, 1926, in Richmond, to Minville L. and Lola E. Upchurch Morris, he was a life-long resident of Richmond. William was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in World War II. He retired in 1988 from Belden as a wire extruder operator after 37 years of service. William was a member of American Legion Post #333,in Hagerstown, The Eagles, and Richmond Moose Lodge. He enjoyed dancing, watching IU basketball and NASCAR, and associating with friends. William was known as the “Candy Man” at Sterling House. Survivors include his children, Jay (Sandy) Morris of Hagerstown, Roger (C. Sue) Morris of Hagerstown, and Connie (Bob) Johnson of Economy; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; one great-great-grandchild; siblings, Evelyn Chasteen, Don Morris, and Ora Lee Clarke, all of Richmond, Everett Morris, David Morris, Sharon Marshall, and Helen Martin, all of California; cousins; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Lorene Morris; sister, Mary Griffin; brother, Estel Morris; and grandson, Josh Johnson. Visitation for William E. Morris will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Minister Paul Gearhardt officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
