RICHMOND, Ind. – Melanie Sue Curnutt age 70, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 29, 2012, at Golden Rule/Golden Living Center. Born September 12, 1942, in Richmond to James and Harriett Stubbs Hamilton, she lived in Richmond for most of her life. Mel was a 1960 graduate of Richmond High School. She worked at Belden. Mel taught piano for more than 40 years and was an accompanist for Richmond High School choirs, the organist and pianist for First Baptist Church, and also played at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mary Martha Circle, and the Piano Guild. Mel loved sharing her music and spending time with her friends and family. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald Ray Curnutt, to whom she was married on December 4, 1964; three daughters, Jama (Bryan) Brown of Delaware, Ohio, Andrea (Andy) Dudas of Richmond, and Elise (Lewis) Hansel of Centerville; “son”, Randy Long of Beech Grove, Indiana; five grandchildren, Maddie Brown, Hayden Brown, and Maggie, Grace, and Olivia Dudas; mother, Harriett Hamilton; sister, Ann Retz of Richmond; brother, Jeff (Joni) Hamilton of California; nieces and nephews, Katy (Kevan) Wogoman of Williamsburg, Rod Retz of Ohio, Dean (Denise) Retz of Greens Fork, Rick (Darla) Busby of Pendleton, Indiana, Shawn Busby of Michigan, Kathy Busby of Mount Comfort, Indiana, Ronnie Busby of Florida, and Royce Busby of Anderson, Indiana; great-nieces; nephews; cousins; students; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father; brother-in-law, Keith Retz; grandparents, including Jennie and Clayton Stubbs; and niece, Tammy Morris. Visitation for Melanie Sue Curnutt will be from 4 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 1601 South A Street, Richmond, with Rev. James Spon and Rev. Phillip Hodgkin officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
